Petr Cech disappointed with early exit
Czech Republic goalkeeper has stated that he was disappointed with the early exit from the Euros.
He said that he did not expect his team to perform poorly in France, and he had hope that they could at least get out of the group stage.
The Czech Republic was drawn in a group comprising of Spain, Croatia and Turkey and finished last in the group. Petr Cech admitted that he knew that it would be hard against Spain and Croatia, but they had hope that they could beat Turkey and make it to the next round. Instead, they find themselves beaten by Turkey by 2-0.
The Turkish team scored in the opening stage of the game to take the lead. The Czech Republic, who were without Tomas Rosicky, failed to impose themselves on the game and conceded another goal in the second half.
Petr Cech said that it was a big disappointed for them. They wanted to get at least a point against either Spain or Croatia in the first two games and then they could have look for a result against Turkey. He said that they got a point against Croatia but failed to get a result against Turkey.
He said that it was quite disappointing to be so close to the qualification and then to miss it. He said that they played quite well in the game but unfortunately could not manage to score a goal. This is what make the difference between the Czech Republic and Turkey.
Petr Cech has stated that this might be his last participation with the Czech Republic and that he might be considering retiring from international football. He said that he wants to take some time to think on this issue before taking a decision about his future. He stated that he wants to focus more on his club football.
