Arsenal may have secured only a point from the recent North London
Arsenal may have secured only a point from the recent North London derby against Tottenham, but this was a well-earned point for the gunners since they appeared to be heading for a defeat.
Spurs were leading in the game after a goal from striker Harry Kane and Arsenal struggled to get back into the match until the latter stages. Kieran Gibbs provided a late equaliser and the match finished as a draw with both teams sharing the points. Arsenal were let off the hook by Manchester City, who could only draw the game against Aston Villa.
As a result, the gunners remain in the second spot of the Premier League. This is still a very good start by the team, but it looked to have gone horribly wrong for Wenger when he watched his team suffered a 2-0 defeat in the opening game of the season. Arsenal were up against West Ham at the Emirates. Even though the hammers were on high due to the arrival of Slaven Bilic as the replacement for Sam Allardyce, not many would have expected West Ham to get all three points away from home. Petr Cech says that the team has shown enough resilience to come back from this disappointment and he expects Arsenal to get stronger as the season progresses.
“We started very well in the Community Shield, our first competitive game after we had a very good pre-season. Then the first league game came and we lost 2-0 at home. That’s possibly the worst start we can imagine, but we recovered from it and learnt from it.Since then we’ve been picking up points and as a team we’ve settled into the way we want to play. I think everybody understands their role within the team. People try to do their best every day to make sure we are ready to compete, and so far it’s been bringing the success,” said Cech.
