ESPN Pundit Alejandro Moreno does not believe Jan Oblak will leave Atletico Madrid in the summer amid the ongoing link with Arsenal. The Slovenia international joined the La Liga giants from Benfica back in the summer of 2014, and he has since racked nearly 100 league appearances.

Speaking on the ESPN FC show, Moreno and his fellow pundits were discussing potential replacements for Petr Cech at Arsenal where Oblak’s name had propped. However, the 38-year-old feels the Slovenian won’t be making the switch to the Premier League after having established himself as the first-choice at the Wanda Metropolitano.

He said: “It will be someone maybe but it’s not going to be Jan Oblak. I think he has become a very important part of Atletico Madrid. He’s very well identified with Atletico Madrid as a club. I think Oblak stays at Atletico Madrid.”

Cech has been a credible performer for Arsenal during his two-and-a-half seasons, but he has received stick from a section of the club’s supporters this season, owing to his late decision making whenever he put on pressure with the ball. This has likewise been the case with Colombian international David Ospina, whose blunders against Olympiakos and Koln in recent years have made Arsene Wenger rethink twice before naming him ahead of Cech for the Premier League duties.

Many of the club’s faithful had expected Cech to solve the goalkeeping vulnerabilities which lasted during the time of Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski in the ranks, but the 35-year-old’s career appears to be heading on downslide over the past 12 months. Aside from Oblak, the north London club are also deemed to be considering a move for Koln goalkeeper Timo Horn, who has a relegation release clause of around £5m in his contract. The Bundesliga outfit are presently seven points off a relegation play-off spot, and they face a stern test of their credentials in the final 12 games of the season.
