Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has said that he is very much looking forward to winning the Champions League with Chelsea this season.
After a lot of troubles earlier in the campaign, Chelsea have regained their composure and hit a good run of form just at the right time. They have just progressed into the semifinals of the Champions League after beating Benfica 3-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals. They have been drawn against Barcelona, who are the firm favourites to win the Champions League this season, in the semifinals, which will take place in the middle and last weeks of April.
Cech played in the Champions League final of 2008 with Chelsea, but ended up losing side after Manchester United won the trophy on penalties. Now, the goalkeeper wants to go better than being the runner-up by finishing as the winner in this year’s competition final, which will be held in the Allianz arena – the home of Bayern Munich. Many have written off the chances of Chelsea beating Barcelona in the semifinals, as Barcelona showed there is no signs of slowing down. However, Cech believes that past results between the two clubs have always shown that the games have been the toughest, and he expects the same this time around as well.
“You dream that you win the Champions League once in your life. We just progressed through to the next round and still have a chance to fight for the trophy. Now we are facing the world’s best football club but it was almost a certainty that if we got far we would probably play against them. You cannot look to the left or to the right at this stage,” Cech said in his biography column on his personal website. Chelsea will be facing Wigan during the weekend.
